Introduction
They spoke out, and they spoke out, and they spoke out, until eventually the scientists said, "well, if you want to be a bunch of ungrateful buffoons, we advise you to fix this yourself. You never spoke out to the last generation of scientists,". The public was at a loss with this answer. They scratched their heads, and decided to ask the scientists to build them a new world, without all the mutated fish and acid rain of their world. It was too late: the entire scientific community, 60% of the world's population, had taken their mental prowess and left the planet behind, leaving only the message of: "you're done for, we're off to Mars!". The scientists later realized that they may have been scientists but none of them were pilots. Most of them died horrible painful deaths.
But back on Earth, the humans left had realized that they were indeed probably done for. So, they sat back and waited for the world to kill them, as they had killed it. But a miraculous thing happened. The world seemed to forgive them. Plants grew through the skyscrapers and speedways, vines invaded the apartment buildings and mansions, and soon the world was lush and green again, a mountain indistinguishable from the Chrysler Building. The metal corroded, the reactors ceased to run, and the power lines collapsed under their own weight. Everywhere there was the remains of an era that was very quickly becoming lost in the ravages of time. They kept the books and the farms and vineyards, but, to put it simply, both Microsoft and Apple lost.
986 years after the Great Reawakening, humankind returned to the Dark Ages. There were four Territories, spreading over lands that were once home to vast cities of metal and grime but now contain nothing but rolling plains, occasionally speckled with debris and ruins. The four Territories each had a leader, the leaders formed the Council, and the Council mad sure that the world that they had built would never be tainted by the electronic or the plastic, ever again. The four Territories: Theola in Europe/Northern Asia, Kamisuki in Japan/Asia, Golemn in Africa, Finn in the Americas.
Things had been changing for humankind, but things have always changed for humankind. Then, one day, a village in Kamisuki discovered a book in its library basement, a book that describes the sun expanding. The Reckoning had come. Now, the world was in turmoil, searching for old plans for technology, burning forests, and returning to the old ways of mechanics and travelers, but they vowed on the spirit of their new ways that they will never go back to computer chips. They will leave this death trap, and they will do it before the sun expands, whenever that may be. You should really check dates before you go nuts.
A group of people, the Revivalists discovered a book, entitled the Key of Solomon. In this book were designs from the Early Days of Victoria, in 1841. In 1841, Da Vinci-esque amateur scientist named Richard Solomon came up with a series of designs for steamboats, and along with these were steamships, clocks, gears, and above all: steam. This was the answer to their problem.
Now, in the year 3371, mankind is launching its first steamship to deep space. The steamship Artemis, it is manned by fifty people, the captain, the engineers, and the navigational officers. With wormhole technology modified to steam design, they are exploring a place far too big for themselves. And somewhere, lost in space is the remains of the crew of scientists that were launched 1,300 years ago. It's kind of like Star Trek, new frontiers and stuff, and there can be "episodes" story arcs that begin and end, maybe like X-Files with the subplot that went through all the episodes, but mostly it's a search for a habitable place to live for the entire human race which at this point is about 50 million, so a large planet. So far, I really don't have a specific plot, just a main goal.

"You know, the Captain's a busy person, all those people running around, bothering 'em. I think it would be best if you just put the file on the desk and left,"
