Introduction
-Violator
Anarchy. A beautiful yet destructive thing. It can only be tamed with war, and people who try to keep homesteads and civilizations under control. But its only a matter of time before all sanity is lost. People will die. One can not expect safety of themselves or loved ones, and self defense is vital for survival. Money was deemed useless since the monarch had fallen. So trade and bargaining has taken its place. There are merchants who require money(Keping) for their items they look to sell. Who knows, maybe the money deemed useless will soon become valuable again.
There are small homesteads throughout Emaric, and each one is trying its hardest to stay civil and organized. It's hard to. There are bandits who raid them because they are so weak. Lives are taken from sickness and struggle. Others from magic misuse and murder. Everything is just turning into living hell.
The Old Republic, where the monarch ruled from, had been ruined, and there is nothing of the civilization left but rubble and vegetation. That is what caused the monarch's fall. That is what caused the anarchy of Emaric. it will forever be in this state, unless someone stands up to change it.
First, how about a little idea on how the passing of rulership works, and a brief history of the family tree.
Rulership will be passed to the eldest son, or child, really, if the family had no sons. If this is the case, the current ruler would have an organized marriage for their daughter so that the land would continue to be ruled by a king. But the choice of the spouse is a tedious process, because who would want their country to be ruled by someone who lacks the ability? Secondly, the monarchy would most likely have more than two children for obvious reasons. Also, if the king and queen had no children, they would return to the line of siblings of the king. Or if the king had no siblings, the monarch line would continue with the queen's family. Now, if it came to a point where there were no other people to fit this position, the last option would be moved to the Duke's family or the family of the Duchess. As this is the last resort.
The race of the royal family was primarily human. There was some mixing of the races somewhere along the line, which caused some trouble. For example, a dwarf and an elf have children, there is a very low chance that those children will be able to have their own children. But it is still possible. So after a certain point, the royal family was never again purely human. It also meant that less children were being born. But as the family grew, most of the mixed racial genes were washed out, returning the royal family line to the point where the human traits over run the other traits therefore returning the fertility of the parents ever so slightly back to normal. But the royal family was never again 100% human as it once was.
And now for the main history in a brief paragraph; this is a brief royal history.
The worst possible scenario had occurred, the main royal bloodline had been said to be killed off. And this would be truly a horrible thing. Without a monarch found, Emaric would continue to be in total chaos until someone miraculously was able to take power. But there is still a spark of hope left. Before the fall, the king, Duncan Remus, and queen,Rachel Remus, had five sons. (Eldest to youngest) Gerald, Robert, William, Francis, and Isaac. But in secret, the king, had an affair with an elf woman, keeping everyone in the dark about it. The elf woman's name was Arachne, and she had a son, Henry, and daughter, Alis, with the king, keeping them ignorant about the royal blood they had within them. During the beginning of the fall, a rebellion formed and raided the castle, killing all of the heirs, the king and queen, and all of the nobles, thus supposedly ending the royal bloodline for good. But there were still the half and half children that the king had with Arachne. In fear of her children being found out and killed, she sent them away to her cousin, who raised them ever since. these siblings grew up, but only one of them, Henry, had a single son that he named Kegan, for the other was unable to produce offspring, which is usually the cause from being half and half. That son traveled alone, ignorant that his father was the son of a king. Therefore he, was the son of a king. Later on, he had twins, a girl, Primrose, and a boy, Terrence. Though as his children grew up, his daughter became weaker and weaker. She died at the age of ten(which would be about the time the role play starts) In fear of the same happening to his son, he sent him away to an elvish family to take care of him. And soon after, died himself. His son at the age of ten, is the only heir to the throne as we know it.
You are the one who decided to take action, knowing there must be others who share the same hope as you. You prepare yourself for the worst that is to come, and you train yourself to fight as best you can, but you are not perfect. every fight you have been in ended with scars, blood on your hands, and a new memory. You watch your back every step of the way, not trusting anyone unless they prove they can be trusted. But you are careful, and you know the family and friends you left behind could be put in danger with every choice you make. Even the faction you choose to side with can determine your fate.
You will eventually take place in a later battle, caused by the two factions, Privette and Athia. Both factions want Emaric to be under their own leader ship, and they will stop at nothing to annihilate the other. This gives the Cabal faction the go ahead; by this time they have found a monarch to put into power. By destroying the two other factions, they will be feared enough to restore the monarch. Bridger Pass will be the battle ground for many fighters. But Jiest Hill will be the heart of the battle. The blood bath. The literal living Hell on earth, will be in that spot. Lives will be lost, innocent people will be killed. All for the sake of the country. Whether it be for themselves or the restoration of the anarchy, all of it is for Emaric. But be careful during the darkest of times.
Every choice you make could threaten your life.
The country of Emaric is the mainland of the role play. All characters will be from here, but can have parents from elsewhere. Here is a map of the current country. Other countries will not be mapped, only mentioned and described. Only major landmarks and major places will be numbered, other towns and other places will be listed only. Don't worry, in every place, I will have a list of the towns to help you out.

(Before the fall)Instead of Barons or lords keeping their eye on individual villages, the villages are watched by guards loyal to the king. There was a head guard, referred to as the 'Head'. They were the commander of the group of guards that were assigned to them. They were often times very wealthy and had good lifestyles. But they were highly respected and well known.
Now I will explain the areas/states of Emaric. This will help you choose a hometown for your character. Not every location is listed here, these are the only places that have places that have villages.
Oslea Begen
People from Oslea are usually very secretive, and tend to be more long distant fighters than close combat. They are skilled in survival technique, and are used to the hot and humid climate. Their villages are usually located in treeless areas, and are most often the hiding places for bandits and criminals. People from Oslea are very used to wild pheasants running freely within their villages, and dragons circling overhead. The dragons never pose a threat, and rarely ever come to the ground there. Many fortune tellers live here, but are quite hard to come by and recognize.
Races normally found here-
- Humans
- Elves
Epra Island
There are very few people here. they tend to specialize in fishing and are rather superstitious. They tend to go mad at times due to their isolation, and you will rarely ever find someone from Epra Island on the mainland. If you do, they usually are in Bridger Pass, or Thierus, because boats and ships are barely ever used. Despite how crazy these people can get, they are very smart and logical.
Races normally found here-
- Humans
Ebrar Mountains
This is where the magic happens. Most magic users are here, except there are very few, and they usually do not reveal they are magic users, for they will most likely be kidnapped by greedy bandits who want to use their magic for wrong doings. The bandits obviously have the wrong prospective of magic in Emaric. Magic is very rare for humans and other races to wield, elves are the true magic wielders. Though not all elves are able to use magic, they still have magic in them. If a human or another member of a race possesses magic, somewhere along their family tree, they may have an elf relative. But elves interbreeding with humans and other races is highly uncommon.
Races normally found here-
- Humans
- Elves
- Dwarves
Bridger Pass
Most farming and agriculture happen in Bridger pass. The people that live here are the most diverse. They differ from race, personality, and culture. But this the third most dangerous place in the country, along side Iadros Island, and the Yetria badlands which is the first most dangerous place in the country. People here are used to small fights between factions, and bandits. The most people travel here every year, so the villages are rather large because of settlers and travelers.
Races normally found here-
- Humans
- Elves
- Dwarves
- Orcs
- Kamaels
Thierus
Being the most northern place for civilization, the people here are used to mild summers and freezing winters. The people who live here are tough skinned and easily adaptable. they are used to famines because of the usual cold, and they are also used to driving dragons away from their villages, because dragons become more aggressive as you near the northern parts of Emaric.
Races normally found here-
- Humans
- Dwarves
Medalgo
This is where many elves live. The marshes and swamps here are the perfect place for hunting baby sea serpents as they make their way to the open waters through the streams. The villages here are usually outside of the swamps and the deep south of Medalgo is rather dangerous, for much hallucination will happen to everyone who ventures here.
Races normally found here-
- Humans
- Elves
- Orcs
Now for the races. There are five races in Emaric, and there are four you can choose from. The Kamaels will not be playable, because in Emaric, they are an endangered race. And if they were playable, I feel that most of the people who join would want to be a Kamael just because they are rare and endangered. Anyone who proves to me that they will not abuse this in being a Kamael, please message me and I might let you be one. I hope you know what I mean. In Emaric, personalities do not come because of the race of a character. They come because of the character's player. The personality and behavior is entirely up to the player. Normally, for example, Orcs are thought of, and are usually, violent, and merciless people. In Emaric, they can be civil and well behaved. They do live in villages also, and have normal lives. If a player wants to make a stereotypical orc, they may.
Playable races
- Humans
- Elves
- Dwarves
- Orcs
Unplayable Races
- Kamaels
(Originally a race from the game LineageII, I decided to put them in this role play for fun. They are identifiable by their angelic appearance. They have one feathered wing, thus they cannot fly. They also have elf like ears. Many Kamaels in Emaric were killed in a large genocide before the monarch fell, known as the 'Kamael Downfall'. Now, in fear of being killed, they usually amputate their wing, and consider themselves an elf when they go into hiding. Some Kamaels do keep their wing, but usually hide it under a cloak.)
This Race is unplayable for the reason of being rare and extinct, so I feared that most people who join the role play would want to be a Kamael solely for this reason. If you really want to be one, PM me and prove to me that you can pull it off well. I will only approve some because I do NOT want total amateurs to be Kamaels. Do not abuse this, try to be one of the other races for a while before asking to be a Kamael.
Now to introduce the factions. All of our characters will be in one faction, but that will come later on. Your character will have a faction they want to be a part of, but are unable to get into. If you choose to have a second character, that character may be in any faction you choose.
Privette Faction
This faction is made up of people who believe that the land should be ruled by them. If they win the Jiest Hill battle, they will be able to take over the country. Most people in this faction are spread out, and meet one on one with members in secret to plan attacks and assassinations of people who they feel are a threat.
Athia Faction
This faction is very centered on having the country to themselves as well. In this faction, there are many veterans who have participated in the 'Kamael Downfall' and will kill any Kamaels they happen to find. they travel in small groups and have long distance strategy when it comes to fighting. Most bandits are part of this faction.
Cabal Faction
This faction is formed when our first(and maybe second) characters team together to find an heir to the throne. The clues they find would hopefully lead them to Terrence, the decedent of the king that was in power prior to the fall. And during the battle of Jiest hill, the Cabals will fight to the death in order to restore the monarch, even if it means losing their lives.
Now, I believe that magic is one of the key elements of most medieval based role plays. And because it is something that can be misused and misunderstood, I have decided to make it a special section in this intro. People who are interested in having a magical character, please pay attention. Emaric is a low magic country. This means, that magic is not as powerful as it is elsewhere. So I will explain the magic-
Magic in Emaric is once again, not very powerful. magic is not used for combat, but for trickery, illusion, and self defense. But self defensive magic is far from fatal. Sure, it can harm someone pretty badly, but it can not kill them. It is up to the user how the magic is used. But the strength and power of the magic will always be the same when willingly being used for anything. Regardless of the race or amount of experience the person has.
Because it is used for trickery and illusion, magic users can create the illusion to make their magic look more powerful and strong than it actually is. This can only fool someone who is not as experienced with magic, or someone who has nothing to do with magic at all. It takes an experienced magical person to know an experienced magical person.
Magic is usually natural to the user. They are born with it. But it also can be learned. But learning magic, it would obviously be more difficult to use and understand rather than if the person was naturally capable of it. But if one is able to learn how to use magic, that means that somewhere in their very distant past, they might have had an elf relative. People who try to learn magic most of the times fail, because they are not in any way related to an elf of any kind. People who do not naturally have magic in them, but are able to learn how to use it, do have some sort of relation with an elf somewhere along the family tree. As stated earlier in the Ebrar Mountains description, "Magic is very rare for humans and other races to wield, elves are the true magic wielders. Though not all elves are able to use magic, they still have magic in them. If a human or another member of a race possesses magic, somewhere along their family tree, they may have an elf relative. But elves interbreeding with humans and other races is highly uncommon."
See, there is no minimum of magic use. The less used, the less powerful it will be. Yet all magic is the same, but can only be made to appear more powerful. And because all magic is the same, the limit is the same, regardless of race or ability to handle it. There is a point where magic can be fatal, but only to the user. Think of magic as energy, it takes many years to build up, and magic takes many, many years to learn if not already natural to the user. Throughout learning to control magic, natural or not, the user will have moments where they fail to control the amount of energy created, therefore harming their bodies in some way. And sometimes this can be fatal if the heart, brain, or liver is damaged(which rarely ever happens), along with other important parts of the body. So magic users usually have scars on themselves from these moments. So magic itself is something not to be taken lightly.
It is one of the hardest things to understand in this universe. Magic users, natural or not, most likely had years and years of study before they were able to fully understand this mysterious element. But even though magic is not natural to all, that does not mean someone who is unable to do magic can not study it. The study of magic often comes into good use. But being one of the hardest things to understand, it will always have some sort of alluring mystery withing itself.
You have read it all! Thank you for doing so. This is what I'd like to see in your character sheet.

The setting changes from Faerin(village, south) to Emaric
Elisabeth rifled through the pockets of the dead carefully. She was disappointed with what she found. She left on the back of a stolen horse, with two replacement horses for the farmer led behind her. Being around even one was an annoyance, but she did feel obligated to return the farmer's favor. So with her stolen trio she trotted back in Faerin's direction, almost wishing for something else to attack her. But whether it was Elsir's protection or punishment, her return was uneventful. She stopped in front of the farm, tied the horse's leads to the fence, and walked the rest of the way without an explanation. A very confused farmer found his workhorses replaced breeds ill-suited to labor.
Simon, as agreed, walked to Goneril's house, but waited outside for Elisabeth to arrive. Her chestplate was covered in someone else's blood. "I doubt too many locals take kindly to an elf walking around, er, painted like that."
"I doubt there's too many locals that can do anything about it."
"I trust you're in good health?"
"As good as any other day."
Simon offered her a smile she didn't return before walked back up the slight hill to knock on Goneril's door.

Well thank you ^^ It is still undergoing some minor changes here and there, though. I'd love it if you joined. Any questions, and you can ask me.

Re: Jiest Hill
Anyway: Neither of my characters are finished. The questions I need to ask you specific to them I will PM you for. As for the race and gender relations, I know individuals characters can decide whatever they want. I wanted to know if, in general, there was a particular attitude, or if different regions have diverse cultural attitudes.

MayContainPlagiarism wrote:A well planned, mid-fantasy story set after a major collapse with the staple player race pantheon and the option to play two characters? This is exactly what I've been looking for.
That copy-and-paste into a new tab doesn't work, by the way. It works for YOU because your C drive actually has that picture on it, but you're going to have to upload your map somewhere (photobucket?) and put it in the RP with the usual img /img tags.
With the lack of monarch-specific history, am I right in assuming you don't have a long family tree or political hierarchy? I'd like to ask that I may characters who were the friends/confidants/tutors/whateverrelationisappropriate of the royal son or daughter, an elf and a human. I would first, of course, need a name, age, and gender of the heir to the throne (or a younger sibling). Whether that person survived the downfall or not is your decision.
1. How are race relations? Is it the typical elves-dwarves don't like each other but humans mediate and make peace between them, and everyone hates orcs? Or are the populations so inter-mingled at this point that there are no dwarf kingdoms and elf kleptocracies and human dictatorships?
2. Are women respected? Is it the typical dwarves respect skill and eschew gender, elves have separate gender roles but they are easily broken, and humans are all sexist? Or, again, are the populations so inter-mingled that, despite a few advocates of sexism, there's equal opportunity for either gender to succeed?
3. Are people distrustful (or outright hateful) or magic? It seems like anarchy + famine + arcanists slaughtering innocents would make them pretty disliked. Combined with superstitious and uneducated farmers, it's a good recipe for a witch hunt.
4. Can I play a human wizard and an elf fighter? It's an unusual combination (in most fantasy settings) I really enjoy employing.
5. Can we get information about the capital city? I would like one of my characters to be from there.
6. How powerful is magic? Is the average mage throwing fireballs big enough to kill a horse, or is the slightest ability to levitate small objects a source of wonder and fear?
7. What is the Cabal's military structure? Is it the evolution of an order of knights loyal to the crown, or is it led by politicians sacrificing subjects to return themselves to lives of pamper and authority?
8. Are we free to make up nonmajor religions?
9. How do we simulate non-Human speech? I usually use French for Elves so I don't have to make up nonsense gibberish.
Well you made me think hard about my role play. (Disregard the PM I sent you) And thank you for telling me about my mistake with the map, I will be sure to fix that right away. And I truly didn't think that anyone would join so soon because I was lacking the things you mentioned. And I myself, feel that some of those are up to the players to decide. I try not to give so many limits. I myself still need to work on the main basis of the story line and lore and whatnot.
With the monarch history, I do need to work on that as well, but I just didn't think about it at the time, much like any of the things you mentioned. I will have to do something to fix that. And with race relations, I believe that I mentioned that it is up to the players to decide how their characters behave, which also ties into the way they act around other characters, regardless of the race. (I do need to do some editing.) and most of the questions you have asked may take some time to answer.
If you have any suggestions, or would like to help me build the story up even more, I'd love some help. According to some, I am only an amateur role player who needs to develop skills. I would really enjoy and accept any help I can get, because I do see a lot of needed improvement in my story development skills. But for the most part, I really do believe in letting most of the story unfold in the role play, and be determined by the players as a whole, if you understand. I don't usually like to have a specific line of story for people to follow, because I feel that there are too many restrictions when that happens. But if need be, I am capable of creating a deeper story and meaning for the role play so the characters can have it a little easier.
I will answer your questions in detail once I have given them some more thought. Thank you for taking the time to ask them, I really appreciate it. It helps out quite a bit.
Re: Jiest Hill
